Some very brave ex-Scientologists raised in the cult put up a site. I think I just heard a cracking sound coming from a foundation…

1997 statement by Lisa McPherson’s family; applicable to Anonymous

February 27, 2008
I’m sure this applies to Anonymous as well. Lisa’s family issued this
statement before our 2nd protest in Clearwater.  It seems quite
applicable now as well.
”We wish to take this opportunity to express our sincere thanks for
your worldwide support and kindness which we have received as we
continue to cope with the tragic and preventable death of
Lisa.”  [March 8, 1997]

Portland Anonymous donates in Lisa’s name

It’s been so incredible to have Anonymous remember Lisa. They held their first protest on Lisa’s birthday. They had cake for Lisa in Clearwater. And they sang Happy Birthday to her in many locations.  Thank you Anonymous.

an indirect method of investigating Scientology

February 23, 2008

http://sopr.senate.gov/cgi-win/m_opr_viewer.exe?DoFn=3&CLI=RELIGIOUS%20TECHNOLOGY%20CENTER&CLIQUAL==

Scientology doesn’t have to report a lot of its financial dealings since it has religious status, but its lobbyists do have to file reports.

This is something to keep in mind when investigating Scientology. If you can’t find information directly, maybe you can find it indirectly, like the above.

How big is Anonymous?

February 23, 2008

The first thing about Anonymous that really got my attention was the reaction to Wise Beard Man’s first video. This was, for non-Anonymous people, a boring talking head 9 minute snoozefest.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zW466xcM0Yk

Yet, in the first 24 hours, it got 140,000 hits!  Now how could that be?  The only answer, Anonymous is Big.

Another indication is the number of hits to Anonymous’ first youtube video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCbKv9yiLiQ&feature=related

2.4 million hits in a month.

Another? The February 10 protest. I know from personal experience how hard it is to get people to protest Scientology. The largest protest I ever helped organize had 50 people. We had a candlelight vigil in honor of Lisa McPherson that brought out about 150 people.  Our 1995 worldwide protest against Scientology had about 150 people in about 14 different cities.  How did Anonymous do with their first protest done on short notice?  About 8000 protesters in about 107 cities.  In Clearwater when I worked at the Lisa McPherson Trust we couldn’t even get people to come into our office to visit, let alone go out and protest.  How many Anonymous protested in Clearwater? About 180.

Finally, the number of unique visitors to lisamcpherson.org. Anonymous started rumbling in January.

http://www.lisamcpherson.org/images/2007-8_lisa_count.png

Notice how the hits shot up. Now some of this was from Andrew Morton’s book coming out, and some from the Tom Cruise video leak. But the sustainability of this rise I attribute to Anonymous. Again, pretty impressive.

Now, some of this can be explained as just the times changing, and it’s true that Scientology is less aggressive now than previously. But still, as indicators of how big Anonymous is, these facts are pretty impressive.  I look forward to March 15.

Should Scientology lose its tax exemption? My contribution

February 17, 2008

http://www.lisamcpherson.org/cos/irs-cos.htm

They never should have gotten tax exemption in the first place. It was won by intimidation, not legitimacy.  Scientology had thousands of lawsuits going against the IRS and its agents.

http://www.lisamcpherson.org/cos/doctrine_of_exchange.htm

Scientology’s own Doctrine of Exchange teaches that they should pay for what they use, like the police, roads, the court system, etc., so they should be paying taxes by their own policy.

http://glosslip.com/2008/02/14/apparently-not-all-religions-are-created-equal-the-irs-secret-deal-with-scientology-under-scrutiny/

The Sklar case shows that Scientology has gotten special treatment from the IRS that nobody else gets.

It’s time to take away Scientology’s status as the IRS’s Chosen People, and put them where they should be, as a business.

http://www.lisamcpherson.org/scripture.htm

By its own words, Scientology is not a religion anyway. It’s whatever they want to be at the moment.

What other religion gives a commission to members who recruit another member? What other religion charges you thousands of dollars before they’ll tell you what they actually believe? What other relgion teaches their ministers from Sales Technique books?  What other religion has fixed prices for blocks of Truth?
